Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education

Children sittingIf you love kids and want to make a difference in young lives, you might be a great preschool teacher. Research shows that providing high quality educational programs for our youngest children is an investment in the future. The Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education program at OCTC can give you the tools to have a big impact on little ones. Our graduates gain an understanding of the cognitive, physical, social and emotional development for working with young children. Our students benefit from excellent classroom instruction and practical experiences that prepare them for this rewarding field.

Available Credentials

Associate in Applied Science (AAS)

  • Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education: 66-69 credit hours


  • Child Care Assistant: 9 credit hours
  • Early Childhood Administrator: 12 credit hours
  • Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education Technical Certificate: 36 credit hours
  • Kentucky Child Care Provider: 3 credit hours
  • School Age: 15 credit hours

Employment Opportunities

Employment opportunities for persons with a CDA credential or an AAS degree are available in public and private preschools, Early Start, Head Start, early intervention programs, and corporate-sponsored child care facilities.

Length of Program

The program can be completed in two years if you take 15 to 18 credit hours per semester. General education classes should be taken along with curriculum classes.

Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education
