Credit Bearing Classes

CNA (NAA 100)

The student will learn knowledge and skills to assume the role and responsibility required for nurse aides in a long-term setting. The focus is communication, infection control, safety, resident/patient rights, and basic nursing skills. Students will be prepared to take the Medicaid Nurse Aid test.

Medical Terminology (CLA 131) Latin and Greek roots, prefixes, and suffixes as found in medical terminology. Primarily for pre-medical, pre-dental, pre-nursing, and pre-veterinary students, but others will be admitted for help in vocabulary building.

Introduction to Interpersonal Communication (COM 252)

Examine the basic verbal and nonverbal concepts affecting the communication process in various interpersonal contexts. Requires participation in written and oral activities designed to develop and improve interpersonal skills. Includes perspective-taking, relationship and conversation management, effective listening, conflict management, communication climate, communication anxiety, and cultural/gender differences in interpersonal communication.

Introduction to Computers (CIT 105)

Gain an introduction to the computer and the convergence of technology as used in today’s global environment. This class will introduce topics such as computer hardware and software, file management, the Internet, e-mail, the social web, green computing, security and computer ethics. It will also cover the basic use of application, programming, systems, and utility software. Basic keyboarding skills are strongly recommended.

Non-Credit Classes

Dental Assisting Program

The 60-hour Dental Assisting Program prepares students for entry level positions in dental assisting. Additionally, this course is designed to prepare students to sit for the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) Radiology Health and Safety Examination (RHS).

ICD-10 Medical Coding

Effective October 2014, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will require that the standard ICD-9 code sets, be replaced by ICD-10. This move from ICD-9 to ICD-10 will have a significant impact on healthcare providers and the process for which they receive reimbursement. This program will include a detailed review of both ICD-10 (diagnostic coding) and ICD-10-PCS (inpatient procedural coding system).

Pharmacy Technician Program

This comprehensive 50-hour program will prepare students to work as a pharmacy technician in a retail or other pharmacy setting and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam.
