OCTC Hosts Robotics Camp for Champions

Owensboro Community and Technical College is hosting a Champions Camp for 3rd-5th grade students from Southern Oaks Elementary School, Thursday, April 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the main campus of OCTC at 4800 New Hartford Road.

Students will program robots to complete missions on the 2009 Smart Move FIRST Lego League course and about career opportunities through the advanced manufacturing programs at OCTC. Additionally students will learn about the chemistry behind Mentos geysers, made famous on YouTube, and even x-ray objects from home. This proves to be an exciting camp with great hands-on experiences in science and technology.

The Champions Camp, funded through the National Science Foundation Discover Mechatronics grant, is a partnership between Owensboro Community and Technical College and the Champions Elementary School Mentoring Program. We are proud to work on such an exciting partnership to bring science and technology to life for these kids, said Donna Butler, Program Facilitator for Discover College at OCTC.

Southern Oaks students will complete the day with an awards ceremony in the Advanced Technology Center on OCTCs main campus at 1:15 p.m. For more information about OCTCs April 1, Champions Camp sponsored by Discover Mechatronics please contact Katie Walker at 270.852.8616.
