OCTC OFFERS UNIQUE SUMMER PROGRAMS

Owensboro Community and Technical College is offering some unique program opportunities for area citizens.

Designed for those who have a high school diploma or GED, but need more confidence with their math skills, Math Boot Camp, is free and available for two sessions, June 1-12 or July 13-24 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. All sessions are at the OCTC Downtown Campus located at 1501 Frederica Street in room 5. Space is limited so please contact OCTCs SkillTrain at 270-686-4454 to register.

Career Craze 2015 is for ages 12-15 and is available for two sessions, June 5-9 or June 17-19, from 8 a.m. 3 p.m. Careers options in advanced manufacturing is the focus of the camp. Participants will experience the real world applications of todays advanced manufacturing facilities. They will design and build robots to compete in challenges. They will tour Kimberly-Clark and observe science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) concepts in action. There is no fee for the camp but enrollment is limited. College Connections is a program designed to improve Compass scores and help prepare students for college courses. Participants should have a high school diploma or GED. College Connections will meet 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., MondayFriday, July 27 August 7, at the Chandler Conference Center in OCTCs Advanced Technology Center on the main campus at 4800 New Hartford Road, Owensboro. The camp is free, but space is limited, contact OCTC College Readiness Coordinator Donna Butler at donna.butler@kctcs.edu or 270-686-4495.

The Advanced Transportation Fuels Summer Academy is funded in part by the National Science Foundation. The Academy is structured for young men and women, in grades 9-12, to gain a broad overview of opportunities in the field and experience hands on projects to enrich their creativity. Females are encouraged to apply. The Advanced Transportation Summer Academy is from 8 a.m. 3 p.m. on June 22, 23 and 25 and from 8 a.m. 5 p.m. on June 24. The academy will focus on alternative fuels and transportation technology. The sessions meet at OCTCs Southeastern Campus, located at 1901 Southeastern Parkway.
