OCTC To Host FIRST Lego League Regional Event
Owensboro Community and Technical College is hosting the regional FIRST Lego League (FLL) competition this Saturday, December 3, from 8AM-3PM on the main campus located at 4800 New Hartford Road, in the Advanced Technology Center (ATC). This is an engineering/robotics competition for 9-14 year olds. Scheduled participants include teams from: Sorgho Elementary, Daviess Co. Middle, Hancock Co. Middle, Union Co. Christian Academy, Majesty Academy, LaRue Co. Robot Club, Louisville Robotics Club, Chrisney Elementary, Lincoln Trail Elementary, Heritage Hills Middle, Girl's Inc., Owensboro Middle School, Deer Park Elementary, Owensboro Catholic Middle, TK Stone Middle School, and Trigg Co. Middle School.
The FLL Team Challenge for 2011 is "Food Factor". It challenges the teams improve the quality of food by finding ways to prevent food contamination. The students will explore the topic of food safety and examine the possible points of contamination our food encounters from exposure to insects and creatures, to unsterile processing and transportation, to unsanitary preparation and storage then find ways to prevent or combat these contaminates. In the Food Factor Challenge, teams will build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT to solve a set of Food Safety missions as well as research, develop, and share their innovative food safety solutions.
