OCTC’s Ellis Named Registrar

Christy Ellis has been named as Owensboro Community & Technical College’s (OCTC) Registrar. Ellis will fill the role previously held by Sandra Alvey Carden since 1993. Carden is retiring and Ellis began her new position on June 1. 

Ellis started her career at OCTC in 2006.  She held numerous positions in OCTC’s Workforce Solutions division starting as Community Education Coordinator.  She then was the STEM Specialist/Mentee Site Coordinator for the National Science Foundation Discover STEM – Generation Innovation grant worth more than $600,000.  Most recently, she has facilitated the Preparing Vehicle Technicians for Advanced Transportation Fuels grant from the National Science Foundation worth more than $700,000.   

Ellis commented, “I’m excited about this new opportunity. There is a lot to learn but I’m looking forward to it.”  

OCTC President Dr. Scott Williams added, “The position of Registrar literally touches every student that takes a class at OCTC. It is an important role that must demonstrate the utmost integrity and diligence both in accepting credit from other institutions and in certifying the academic records of students who are graduating and transferring. We are happy to be able to promote from within and we look forward to working with Christy in her new position.”

Ellis earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations from Western Kentucky University (WKU) in 1992. She went back to school and earned her Master of Arts in Communications from WKU in 1998.
