A certified nursing assistant, or CNA, helps patients with activities of daily living and other healthcare needs under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). CNA's are also commonly referred to as a Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Assistant (PCA), or a Nurse's Aid.

Get a head start on a healthcare career by obtaining your Basic Life Support (BLS)certification for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and other life-saving skills! BLS certification is required for many healthcare programs including nursing, medical assisting, radiography, and surgical technology.  It takes only one day of hands-on training to complete this certification.

 

Length of program:

You can earn BLS certification by successful completion of this one-credit hour class in one day.  Several classes are taught during the semester so select your day.

Level up your life-saving skills. If you are a certified EMT, our limited admission associate degree program offers advanced prep for the National Registry Exam.

 

Length of program:

You can earn an associate in applied science degree in two years if you maintain full-time status.

It takes more than doctors and nurses to care for patients in the growing healthcare industry. Skilled facilities managers are critical to keeping hospitals and other healthcare facilities operating efficiently and effectively.

 

Length of program:

Associate Degree in Healthcare Facilities Leadership: 62-65 credit hours

Diploma in Healthcare Facilities Leadership: 45 credit hours

Certificate in Healthcare Facilities Foundation Certificate (HFF): 16 credit hours

This course prepares the Medicaid Nurse Aide to administer specific medications in a long-term care facility, as delegated and supervised by a licensed nurse. 

The Kentucky Medication Aide (KMA 100) course is a 5 credit hour class offered multiple times, based on community interest and need. Please fill out the electronic form and select KMA, we will add you to the list and let you know when the next course is set to begin.

Work alongside physicians as a multi-skilled healthcare professional. As a medical assistant, you may perform administrative and clinical/technical skills like scheduling appointments, managing records, taking vital signs, and more.

OCTC's Medical Information Technology Program prepares its graduates to organize health information and medical records by ensuring its quality, accuracy, accessibility and security. Medical records and health information technicians use various systems to code and categorize patient information for reimbursement purposes and to maintain patient medical histories.

If you are interested in helping people and learning about the incredible science of the human body, a nursing career might be for you! OCTC's Associate Degree Nursing program (ADN) prepares its graduates to provide the highest quality care. This program utilizes a selective admission process.

The ADN program prepares graduates to sit for the NCLEX-RN examination in order to become a Registered Nurse (RN).

For those students who are Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) wishing to pursue their Associate Degree in Nursing in order to become an RN, OCTC offers the LPN to ADN program option.

 

Length of Program

Associate in Applied Science Degree in Nursing 

This course is designed to provide knowledge and skills for nurse aides to assume the role and responsibility required in long-term care.  The focus in this course is on communication, infection control, safety, resident's rights, and basic nursing skills.

The Pharmacy Technician performs technical functions under the direction of a Registered Pharmacist; including prescription preparation, inventory, repackaging, and compounding.

Phlebotomists play a vital role in the administration and management of blood draws for diagnosis, transfusion and research purposes.

Phlebotomists must care for patients, employ good communication skills, and take steps to prevent contamination or degradation of samples, which may impact the accuracy of tests.

 

Length of Program

The entire program consists of three classes (five credit hours) that can be taken in one bi-term.  Classes typically meet one- two days per week.

If you are a people person who enjoys learning about science and technology, OCTC's Radiography Program could be for you. This program utilizes a selective admission process. Applications for admission must be submitted between April 1st - May 1st, and a new class begins each fall.

Associate of Applied Science in Radiography: 68 credit hours

Surgical technologists are integral members of medical teams who work closely with surgeons and other medical professionals in multiple settings, including offices, surgical centers, and hospitals. After completing prerequisite courses that include an in-depth study of anatomy, physiology, and microbiology, students admitted to the program learn through hands-on experiences in the classroom and on-site at clinical facilities. This program utilizes a selective admission process.

Associate in Applied Science Degree in Surgical Technology: 60-65 credit hours

Turn your love of animals into a rewarding career, without breaking your budget at OCTC's Veterinary Technology program. The Vet Tech program will provide you with the skills and knowledge needed to work as a professional veterinary technician in as little as two years.
