DART Grant Will Boost Youth Robotics Program

A $5,000 grant from the Dart Foundation will be used to support the robotics program at Owensboro Community and Technical College.

The grant made to the OCTC Foundation will support efforts to attract more youth to STEM (Science, Technology, Math and Engineering) careers by engaging them in robotics. This is particularly critical in Kentucky, where high school students rank 46th in the nation in science and 49th in mathematics on their ACT scores.

OCTC will use the grant to host a two-day academy in March to help area students become engaged in STEM, learn about careers available and participate in the colleges FIRST Lego League clubs and competitions. Since its inception in 1984, the Dart Foundation has placed priority on supporting education programs for youth in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
