OCTC ADVANCED TRANSPORTATION SUMMER ACADEMY

Owensboro Community and Technical Colleges transportation technology department will offer an Advanced Transportation Fuels Summer Academy this summer funded in part by the National Science Foundation.

Rising high school girls and guys will attend the Advanced Transportation Summer Academy from 8 a.m. 3 p.m. June 13, 14 and 16 and from 8 a.m. 4 p.m. June 15 on OCTCs Southeast Campus, 1901 Southeastern Parkway.

The academy will focus on alternative fuels and transportation technology.

Participants will:

  • Make your own biodiesel
  • Test and tune an ethanol-powered 65 Cobra on a Mustang Dyno
  • Assemble a propane system on two Toyota trucks and test on Dyno
  • Test and explore the components of two CNG vehicles
  • Receive certification on CAT3 digital ohmmeters and test components
  • Control a hybrid vehicles function through a laptop
  • Meet industry representatives
  • Tour the Toyota Plant in Princeton, IN
  • Attend a mini car show

There is no fee for the camp but enrollment is limited. Students need to submit an application form signed by their guidance counselor by May 27.
