OCTC Debaters Earn First Place Community College Team Sweepstakes in Debate

Owensboro Community amp; Technical College (OCTC) teams and speakers competed in both national parliamentary and international style parliamentary debates at the 2015 Kentucky Forensics Association (KFA) State Forensics Tournament March 27-28, 2015 at Transylvania University. OCTC fielded two teams in the open division, and all four OCTC speakers finished among the top 10 Novice Speakers competing at the tournament, these included two awards by Lacey Parham a fourth place and a second place award, a fourth place by T. J. Matally, an eighth place finish by Alicia Westerfield, and a ninth place award by first time competitor Rhett Knott. Their outstanding performances earned the OCTC team a first place award among community colleges.

Lacey Parham and Rhett Knott competed in the Lincoln-Douglas Parliamentary Debate andParham also earned a novice speaker award in that division and finished in the top 10 overall speakers in NPDA division. The OCTC team also won the Community College Sweepstakes award in the IPDA Division.
