OCTC Debaters Take First at Murray State
The OCTC Debate team won several awards at the 2010 Murray State Parliamentary Debate Tournament last weekend. OCTCfielded two teams at the tournament and won a quarterfinal award, three
speaker awards, and a first place team sweepstakes award.
Winning speaker awards in the novice division at the tournament wereJames A. Smith, (Owensboro, KY) (5th Place), Zach Blanchard (Rockport,Indiana) (8th Place), and Karl Berggren (Calhoun, KY) (10th Place). Berggren
participated as part of a hybrid team with a debater from North Central College (Chicago, Illinois) and earned a quarterfinalist team award for finishing among the top 8 teams competing in the tournament. The team also won the First Place Novice Team Sweepstakes award by accumulating the most ballots during the tournament in that division.
OCTC next tournament activity will be at the 2010 Kentucky State Speech and Debate Tournament on February 18-20th, also at Murray State University.
