OCTC Debaters Win State for Third Year

OCTC speakers won the Community College Grand Sweepstakes award at the Kentucky Forensics Association (KFA), State Speech amp; Debate Tournament February 19-20 at Murray State University for the third consecutive year.

OCTC also won first place in the Community College Debate Sweepstakes division and earned second place in the Individual Events division, but earned enough total points combined, to outperform Gateway Community College.

Zach Blanchard, Freshman-Rockport, Indiana, and Karl Berggren, Freshman-Calhoun, Kentucky debated in the Parliamentary Debate earning

Blanchard an debate speaker award, eighth place in the novice division.

In the Individual Events competition Blanchard won the top community college award for quadrathon, speakers entered in at least 4 events, Programmed Oral Interpretation, and Extemporaneous Speaking. Blanchard was also recognized as the top novice in Programmed Oral Interpretation.

The OCTC squad will host the 2nd Marty Cronin Memorial Community College Speech Tournament on the main campus on April 24, 2010. Any individual interested in judging or assisting with that event please contact Director of Forensics, Bob Glenn, at either 686-4553 or bobj.glenn@kctcs.edu.
