OCTC Faculty Present Bioethics Forum

Owensboro Community amp; Technical College will host Human Activity and the Environment: Scientific and Ethical Issues a forum on bioethics Tuesday, April 15 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Blandford Lecture Hall, located on the main campus at 4800 New Hartford Road in the Humanities Building. The event will feature presentations from Dr. Tim Dick and Dr. Court Lewis highlighting ideas that focus on a variety of pertinent issues dealing with science, ethics, and the environment. Dr. Dick will briefly explore water pollution, air pollution, acid rain, global warming, land pollution, and habitat loss. Dr. Lewis will discuss the relationship between human values and the environment, and how this relationship creates certain obligations to future generations to respond to the issues discussed by Dr. Dick. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss the causes and effects of each.

Dr. Timothy Dick is a Professor of Biology and has been with OCTC since the campus started in 1986. He holds a BS from USI, two MA degrees from UE and a Ph.D from UK. He has team taught Medical Ethics for over 25 years and serves on the Ethics Committee of Deaconess Hospital, Good Samaritan Nursing Home, and The Women's Hospital.

Dr. Court Lewis is an Instructor of Philosophy and Religion at OCTC. He holds a Ph.D from the University of Tennessee, where he specialized in Normative and Applied Ethics. He served on the Knox County Ethics Commission, taught at two major medical research universities, and actively edits and publishes in both Ethics and Pop Culture. This event is free and open to the public.
