OCTC HOSTING PHILOSOPHERS APRIL 10 11

Owensboro Community amp; Technical College will host the joint meeting of the Indiana Philosophical Association and the Kentucky Philosophical Association on April 10-11, 2015. Dr. Kate Abramson of Indiana University will deliver the keynote address titled, Character as a Mode of Evaluation on Friday evening. Registration begins at 11 a.m. on Friday in the Humanities Building on OCTCs main campus. On Friday, two concurrent sessions will run from 12 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays sessions are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The conferences topics are History of Philosophy, Epistemology (knowledge), Philosophy of Mind and Language, Feminism, Freedom and Responsibility, Aristotle, Kant, and Ethics and Politics. There will be a Student Awards Presentation, and a presentation from the winner of the Student Essay Contest.

Kate Abramson is Associate Professor of Philosophy at Indiana University. Abramson received her Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Chicago, and her areas of specialization include Hume, history of ethics, contemporary ethics, and early modern philosophy (especially British philosophy). She has been a fellow at the Rockefeller Center for Human Values at Princeton University, and received grants from the American Council of Learned Societies and the American Philosophical Society. Two of her current projects are a monograph on the evolution of Hume's moral philosophy titled, The Artifice of Nature: From Philosopher to Reflective Man, and an annotated collection of background historical sources necessary for understanding the context of Hume's Treatise, under contract with CUP.
