OCTC HOSTS SUMMER ACADEMY FOR ADVANCED TRANSPORTATION FUELS

Owensboro Community and Technical Colleges transportation technology department will offer an Advanced Transportation Fuels Summer Academy this summer funded in part by the National Science Foundation. The Academy is structured for young men and women to gain a broad overview of opportunities in the field and experience hands on projects to enrich their creativity. Females are encouraged to apply.

The Academy is open to high school aged students and space is limited. The Advanced Transportation Summer Academy is from 8 a.m. 3 p.m. on June 22, 23 and 25 and from 8 a.m. 5 p.m. on June 24. The sessions meet at OCTCs Southeastern Campus, located at 1901 Southeastern Parkway.

The academy will focus on alternative fuels and transportation technology. Participants will build and race a fuel cell car, make biodiesel fuel, test and tune an ethanol-powered 65 Cobra on a Mustang Dyno, disassemble and assemble high voltage hybrid components, scan and tune a propane truck on a Mustang Dyno, learn to control a hybrid vehicles function through a laptop. Students will also get to meet various industry representatives, tour the Corvette and Holley plants in Bowling Green, and attend a mini car show.
