OCTC HUMANITIES ENDOWMENT COMPLETE

The Owensboro Community amp; Technical College Foundation has reached its goal of creating a $1 million endowment to support humanities enriching activities for students and the Greater Owensboro community. The college will host a celebration in honor of this event on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 4 p.m. in Blandford Lecture Hall.

The OCTC Foundation campaign began in January of 2011 and the college needed to raise $400,000 locally to match a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) challenge grant of $200,000. OCTC was one of only six community colleges in the nation to receive this grant in 2011.

The NEH grant will provide matching dollars of $200,000, and the Kentucky Community amp; Technical College System will provide another $400,000 in matching funds. As a result, every local dollar donated will generated $2.50 toward the goal of a $1 million endowment.

Our Foundation, the OCTC Faculty and Staff, and the community have all worked together to complete this project, said Scott Williams, president of OCTC. Our Foundation has raised over $3.8 million dollars and gifts in kind over the past 5 years, including this endowment, and for the BuildSmart campaign. We are grateful to the community for this support.

The theme of the campaign was HUM (Humans Understanding More.) Enrichment activities in collaboration with community partners include the following: Common Reading Project, Global Studies Activities and Intercultural Events. The author of this semesters Common Read, NY Times best-selling author Garth Stein, The Art of Racing in the Rain will be on hand to sign books at the event.
