OCTC Opens Large Animal Teaching Facility

Owensboro Community amp; Technical College (OCTC) is celebrating the opening of a large animal teaching facility today at 11:30 a.m. on the main campus at 4800 New Hartford. The facility will serve the veterinary technology and agriculture studies programs directly, and indirectly add to a variety of programs including science, ecology, and art.

The facility is a true collaboration with internal support from the electrical technology students, who did the wiring on the facility, and the maintenance and operations staff pitched in to help save on construction costs.

External support was received from the UK Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service, the Green River Area Beef Improvement Group, Rice Agri-Marketing, CPH-45 Group, the KY Agriculture Development Fund, Rural King, and the Daviess County areas KY Farm Bureau.

OCTC President, Dr. Scott Williams added, The barn opening also includes the unveiling of a quilt square created by OCTC Art program coordinator and artist, Monty Helm. This is only one small way that we try and integrate the humanities into our technical programs. We want all of our students to grow and understand the importance of the humanities and be well rounded productive citizens.

The facility is integral to the veterinary technology program and will allow the students to have experiences with large animals. It has been challenging to get this up and running, but thanks to the broad array of internal and external support it has come to fruition commented Williams.
