OCTC STUDENTS EARN DEBATE AWARDS AT BEREA

The Owensboro Community amp; Technical College Speech amp; Debate Team earned a first place honor in the team awards in the Community College division for individual events, and a second place team award in the Community College division for debate, at the John Fee Memorial Tournament at Berea College on October 15-17, 2015.

OCTC speakers competed in speech, NPDA debate, and IPDA debate events. In NPDA duo debate, the Lacey Parham, Sophomore-Owensboro, and Sarah Caudill, Freshman-Owensboro, earning a third place in the Novice Division of NPDA. Lacey Parham earned a sixth place individual speaker award in NPDA. The OCTC team of Jacob Grant and Rhett Knott also competed in this event.

In International Parliamentary Debate Association (IPDA), Lacey Parham finished fourth in the division while also earning a second place award in the IPDA Novice division. Jacob Grant, sophomore-Owensboro, also competed in IPDA, compiling a 2-2 win-loss record in prelims.

First time competitor Sarah Caudill earned sixth place honors in Radio Broadcasting, one of the largest events in the tournament with over 40 student competitors. The OCTC Speech amp; Debate Team is open to all interested students, to learn more please contact Dr. Bob Glenn at bobj.glenn@kctcs.edu.
