OCTC will offer summer welding program

Owensboro Community and Technical Colleges Workforce Solutions department, in conjunction with the Green River Workforce Investment Board, will offer high school graduates or GED holders an opportunity to earn college credit and a paid summer internship during its 2013 Summer Youth Welding and Manufacturing Internship Program.

Chosen participants from Daviess, Hancock, McLean and Ohio Counties will take 90 hours of welding training plus 40 hours of soft skills and adult basic education in Hancock or Ohio County. At the successful completion of the class work, participants will be awarded four college credits and a gas welding certificate.

Local Hancock and Ohio County manufacturing industries will provide internships during an eight-week period for a maximum of 32 hours.

Twenty slots are available. Participants must be age 18 21; low income and meet one other program requirement such as basic skills deficient, dropout, single parent, etc. All applicants must take the TABE test.

The 2013 Summer Youth Welding Program is funded by the Kentucky Education amp; Workforce Development Cabinet, Office of Employment and Training, the Green River Workforce Investment Board, with Workforce Investment Act (WIA), funds.
