OCTCs SPEECH DEBATE TEAM EARNS HONORS AT HOME TOURNEY

The Owensboro Community amp; Technical College (OCTC) Speech and Debate Team earned two team sweepstakes awards and over a dozen individual awards in events while hosting the 22nd Annual BBQ Capital Speech and Debate Tournament, on the main campus November 6-7, 2015. OCTC earned first place in the Community College combined (individual events and debate) division. The team also earned a fourth place Debate Sweepstakes award.

All three OCTC debate team entries earned honors. The NPDA team of Lacey Parham, sophomore-Owensboro, and Jacob Grant, sophomore-Owensboro, finished fourth in the division. Grant also earned a fifth place speaker award in NPDA. First time OCTC debater Tyler Belcher, Freshman-Owensboro, paired with Murray State Universitys Josie Monarch to post a 3-1 win-loss record in prelim and earned a berth in Quarterfinals. In IPDA (Lincoln-Douglas) Debate, Jacob Grant earned a Top Novice Speaker award and placed fourth in the division.

In individual events competition, OCTC speakers won numerous top three finishes.

Jacob Grant earned first place in Extemporaneous Speaking. Lacey Parham placed second in Impromptu Counseling, third in Extemporaneous Speaking, fourth in Impromptu Speaking, and fourth place in Persuasion. Sarah Caudill, Freshman-Owensboro, garnered second place in Impromptu Weathercasting, an event offered for the first time in the nation, third in Radio Broadcasting, and fifth in Persuasion. Rhett Knott, Freshman-Owensboro, finished in third place in Dramatic Interpretation, and was named as the top novice speaker in that event.
