OCTCS SPEECH DEBATE TEAM EARNS HONORS AT KFA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNEY

Owensboro Community amp; Technical Colleges (OCTC) Speech amp; Debate Team attended the 45th annual Kentucky Forensics Association (KFA) State Speech Championship Tournament held at Western Kentucky University, on February 19-20, 2016. The OCTC team finished first in the Sweepstakes Championships Community College Division in Debate and Individual events. This is the fifteenth year in a row that the OCTC team has earned the Debate Sweepstakes award. Dr. Bob Glenn has been coaching the team since 1990.

OCTCs Jacob Grant earned the prestigious Harlan Hamm Memorial Award as one of the top two male speakers in the Commonwealth. Jacob is the fifth Owensboro student to win the award.

OCTC debaters earning debate awards included: Sharon Richling, placed tenth overall and earned fifth place in the Novice division. Rhett Knott earned a tenth place speaker award in the Novice Division.

In Individual events, OCTC speakers made finals and earned awards in Duo Interpretation-Jacob Grant and Sarah Beth Caudill, Radio Broadcasting -Jacob Grant, and After Dinner Speaking Madeline McBride.

The following students earned awards specific for two-year colleges at the KFA State Championship. Sarah Beth Caudill, earned the award for Top 2 Year Student/Team in Informative Speaking, and Top Novice Team in Duo Interpretation pairing with Jacob Grant. Grant also earned the award for the Top 2 Year Student/Team in Impromptu Speaking. Rhett Knott earned Top Novice awards in Dramatic Interpretation and in Extemporaneous Speaking; and earned awards as the Top 2 Year Student in Dramatic Interpretation, Editorial Impromptu, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Radio Broadcasting. Madeline McBride earned the Top Novice Awards in After Dinner Speaking, and was named the Top 2 Year Student in After Dinner Speaking. McBride teamed with Sharon Richiling to earn the award as the Top 2 Year Students in Duo Interpretation.
