Owensboro Community and Technical College students earned honors in debate and speech competitions

OCTC won the Community College Sweepstakes Award at the Berea College Debate Tournament Oct. 19-20, with students Jim Lammers and Sarah Clark defeating teams from the University of Kentucky, Tennessee Tech and Transylvania University.

During the Cumberland Speech Tournament, OCTC student Connor Goodwin finished third in extemporaneous speaking and was recognized as a top novice. Goodwin finished sixth in prose and was recognized as a top novice. His effort earned OCTC the Third Place College Sweepstakes Award.

Students transitioned from debate to speech at the John Fee Invitational at Berea, winning the Community College Sweepstakes Award. Lammers was a semi-finalist in impromptu speaking and was a top novice in after-dinner speaking. Clark was fourth in persuasive speaking and was recognized as a top novice.
