PNC Creates New Scholarship

Owensboro Community amp; Technical College students will soon have a new scholarship opportunity, thanks to a partnership between the Kentucky Community and Technical College System Foundation and the PNC Foundation. OCTC will receive $15,000 from the PNC Skilled Workforce Investment Scholarship.

OCTC is excited about this partnership and the opportunities it creates for our students, said OCTC President Jim Klauber. Federal financial aid has been significantly cut this past year. Those cuts alone hit 40 percent of our student body. For some, it means the difference between finishing and dropping out.

Students enrolled in high-wage, high-demand workforce development programs or who plan to transfer to a Kentucky four- year institution will be considered for the PNC scholarships. Preference will be given to applicants from low-income households.

A business cannot succeed if its communities are not well positioned for future growth and success, said Kevin Carrico, PNC Regional Manager, Kentucky. Our goal with this scholarship is to further the development of Kentuckys workforce and ensure the long-term vitality of the communities in which we serve.

Carrico will present a check to Klauber at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, in the boardroom of the OCTC Administration Building.

Scholarships will be awarded during 2013, 2014 and 2015. Scholarship recipients will receive $1,000 ($500 per semester) to use toward tuition. 2013 recipients may reapply. New applicants also will be considered each year.
In addition to OCTC, funds will be distributed by the KCTCS Foundation among the following other KCTCS colleges:

Bluegrass Community and Technical College - $30,000
Bowling Green Technical College - $10,000
Elizabethtown Community and Technical College - $15,000
Jefferson Community and Technical College - $35,000
Somerset Community College (London North Campus) - $7,500
Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College (Middlesboro Campus) - $7,500
