Medicaid Nurse Aide Training and Testing

OCTCs Medicaid Nurse Aide Training is designed to provide knowledge and skills for nurse aides to assume the role and responsibility required in long-term care. The focus in this course is providing activities of daily living, safety, and residents rights. The course consists of 59 hours of scheduled lecture and skills lab and 16 hours of supervised clinical training in a long-term care facility. Students receive 3 college credit hours for the 75 clock-hour course.

To enroll in a Nurse Aide Course, you must be a current student at OCTC or have a current application to OCTC on file. To apply, visit the START Center on campus at 4800 New Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303 or visit the Admissions webpage. To register for the NAA 100, Nursing Assistant course, you must sign up in the START Center. An information sheet will be completed at that time.

In addition to 3 credit hours of tuition, there will be a $75 testing charge and an $11 liability insurance charge.


All fees are due one week prior to the first scheduled meeting of the course. The textbook and workbook are available for purchase at the Owensboro Community and Technical College bookstore.

State Exam for the Nurse Aide Registry

In order to be listed on the State Nurse Aide Registry, a student successfully completing the course must take the state written examination and skills competency evaluation within one year of course completion. For information on testing or to schedule a test, please contact us at 270-686-4444.

Non-Credit Classes

Dental Assisting Program

The 60-hour Dental Assisting Program prepares students for entry level positions in dental assisting. Additionally, this course is designed to prepare students to sit for the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) Radiology Health and Safety Examination (RHS).

ICD-10 Medical Coding

Effective October 2014, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will require that the standard ICD-9 code sets, be replaced by ICD-10. This move from ICD-9 to ICD-10 will have a significant impact on healthcare providers and the process for which they receive reimbursement. This program will include a detailed review of both ICD-10 (diagnostic coding) and ICD-10-PCS (inpatient procedural coding system).

Pharmacy Technician Program

This comprehensive 50-hour program will prepare students to work as a pharmacy technician in a retail or other pharmacy setting and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Boards PTCB exam.
