The CRAAP Test Worksheet

In today’s era of digital technology, there is an overabundance of information found online … but have you ever wondered where this information came from or if it is even accurate? Those are questions you will have to answer for yourself and the CRAAP Test can help. The CRAAP Test is a series of questions to help you evaluate the information you find. After answering the questions, provide an overall score for each of the five parts from 1 to 10 (1 = unreliable, 10 = excellent). Adding the five scores will give you an idea of the quality of the information you are using.

Currency

  • When was the information published or posted?
  • Has the information been revised or updated?
  • Is the information (also links) current or out of date for your topic?

relevance

  • Does the information relate to your topic or answer your questions?

Authority

  • Can you identify the author/sponsor? What are their credentials?
  • Are the author’s organizational affiliations given? If yes, are they appropriate?
  • Is the information current or out of date for your topic?
  • Is there contact information, such as a publisher or email address?

Accuracy

  • Is the information supported by evidence?
  • Has the information been reviewed or refereed?
  • Can you verify any of the information in another source?
  • Does the language or tone seem unbiased and free of emotion?
  • Are there spelling or grammar errors?

Purpose

  • What is the purpose of the information?
  • Does the author/sponsor make their intentions or purpose clear?
  • Is the information a fact, opinion, or propaganda?
  • Are there political, ideological, cultural, religious, institutional, or personal biases?

  • 45 - 50 Excellent
  • 40 - 44 Good
  • 35 - 39 Average
  • 30 - 34 Borderline Acceptable
  • <30 Unacceptable
