Project Lead the Way - Community Campus
Community Campus is a partnership that identifies projected educational needs in our community and develops college-level programs for advanced high school students in response. Joint high school and college credit is embedded in each academy within Community Campus, including the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Engineering and Biomedical Sciences academies. PLTW Engineering is offered at Apollo High School and PLTW Biomedical Science is offered on Owensboro Community and Technical College’s Main Campus. Project Lead the Way complements traditional college-preparatory academic studies with challenging career/technical studies, providing students with hands-on exposure to real-life engineering or biomedical challenges.

To earn a certificate through Owensboro Community and Technical College, students must enroll and successfully complete 16 credit hours in the following dual credit courses through the PLTW Biomedical Science Academy:

How to apply
Academy participation may be limited by admission requirements and course offering demands. To find out more, please review the Community Campus websites listed above for specific information about each academy. Applications for each academy are also found on the websites and include instructions for submission.
- Work with your guidance counselor or college readiness coordinator to let them know
of your interest for scheduling purposes.
- If you have taken the ACT and met the required scores, complete an application and
have your ACT scores sent to your high school for inclusion on your official transcript.
- If you have not taken the ACT, the TABE-A test is administered at Owensboro Community and Technical College. Admitted students receive one free TABE-A test in English, reading, and mathematics. A photo ID is required, along with an OCTC student ID number (a.k.a. PeopleSoft number). Students with a high school transcript in hand (or an Infinite Campus Summary Report printout with picture for potential Community Campus students not yet enrolled in high school) can complete an application immediately before testing. Retesting is $7/subject, $20 for all three subjects. For more infromation visit the OCTC Placement Testing Webpage.
To schedule the placement test, you must call (270) 686-4533. Please leave your name, number, and a brief message if there is no answer and your call will be returned in the order in which it was received. It is recommended that you schedule two weeks in advance.
Completion of the application does not guarantee acceptance to the Community Campus academy or Owensboro Community & Technical College.
